Intensive driving course vs normal driving course?

When learning to drive, one of the biggest decisions is if you want to learn gradually, having lessons and spreading out the cost week-on-week, or condense everything into a week-long, intensive driving course. There are pros and cons to each, but first, it’s important to understand the difference before making a decision.

What is an Intensive Driving Course?

An intensive driving course is modelled after the tradition crash course model when you take an extensive number of driving lesson hours in a short time window. Usually, your instructor will agree with you to train you for 30 hours or so within a week. The idea is to fast track the learning process, reduce the cost and get the license quicker specially for busy individuals.

Let’s review the pros and cons of intensive course vs normal lessons…

COST: It all depends on the individual, but some may find investing upfront in an intensive driving course is more cost-efficient than spending money on weekly lessons, which can sometimes stretch over a longer period of time.

LEARNING: Intensive courses condense information tightly together in the space of a week, which works for some, but others could find themselves unable to take so much in over such a short period of time. If you have limited time and need the license quicker, intensive courses are a great option.

TIME: Intensive driving course is a greater investment in time i.e. you need to dedicate a good few hours every day for a week. But, at the same time, the course is over in a week or so. On the other hand, for normal driving lessons, you need to continue spending an hour for months. In our experience, Intensive courses work better for most people as the elapsed time for commitment is much shorter.
