Rochdale test routes are not published, but sample routes keep returning to the roundabouts on Wallhead Road and run out along Kingsway, Manchester Road and Milnrow Road. Faster roads have a bigger role since 24 November 2025, when the DVSA let examiners include them where possible, so the A664 and A6193 deserve real practice.

Allow extra time to park on a nearby street, because the centre has no car park, and aim to be inside 10 minutes before your slot with your photocard provisional licence.
Outside, the examiner points out a number plate 20 metres away for your eyesight check.
You then explain a vehicle check for the tell me question, for instance how you would check the power steering is working.
Somewhere on the route you will be asked to reverse park in a bay, parallel park, or pull up on the right and reverse about 2 car lengths.
Expect an emergency stop on only about 1 test in 7, the rate the DVSA set on 24 November 2025.
Independent driving makes up roughly half of the test, following a sat nav or signs, so practise both on the Rochdale roads.
While driving, you might be asked to show how you would sound the horn, which is the show me question.
The result comes at the end, back at Moss Bridge Road, with up to 15 minor faults allowed and no serious or dangerous faults.

The brakes should not feel spongy or slack. Test them as you set off, and the car should not pull to one side.
The pressures are in the manufacturer's guide. Use a reliable gauge, check and adjust the tyres when cold, include the spare and refit the valve caps.
The rigid part of the head restraint should be at least as high as your eyes or the top of your ears, and as close to the back of your head as is comfortable.
Look for cuts and bulges, and check for at least 1.6mm of tread across the central three quarters of the tyre, all the way round.
Switch the lights on, turning on the ignition if needed, then walk round the car to check each one. You do not need to get out on the test.
A warning light on the dashboard comes on if the anti lock braking system has a fault.
Switch on the hazard warning lights, turning on the ignition if needed, then walk round the car to check every indicator flashes.
Press the brake pedal and check the reflection in a window or garage door, or ask someone to look.
Keep gentle pressure on the steering wheel while starting the engine, and it should move slightly as the system starts. Heavy steering means the system may not be working.
Switch on the dipped headlights, then the rear fog light switch, and check the warning light. Use rear fog lights when visibility drops below 100 metres.
Operate the headlight switch with the dipped lights on, and a blue main beam warning light appears on the dashboard.
Find the dipstick or the dashboard oil level indicator, and check the oil sits between the minimum and maximum marks.
Find the coolant header tank and check the level sits between the high and low marks.
Find the brake fluid reservoir and check the level sits between the high and low marks.
Operate the control that washes and wipes the rear windscreen.
Operate the control that washes and wipes the front windscreen.
Operate the headlight switch to the dipped setting.
Press the rear demister switch.
Press the horn control, usually in the middle of the steering wheel.
Set the fan, temperature and air direction to the windscreen, and switch on the heated screen if the car has one.
Operate the window control to open the side window and close it again.
